How do I setup my email?
You can choose to use our webbased email system “WebMail” (formerly Squirrel Mail), you can configure an email client such as Outlook or Outlook Express, or you can use them in combination.
Pabodie Webmail:
To access WebMail, substitute your own domain name for the mydomain section below. The link will take you to your login page. Sample link: www.mydomain.com/mail
NOTE: Your login is your full name ie: myname@mydomain.com.
There are many options you can setup within Pabodie Webmail to change the look and feel and functionality ie: add and reconfigure your folders, preferences, change colors etc.
Emailusing Outlook or Outlook Express or other email client software
NOTE : Where we refer to “yourdomain.com”. please substitute your own domain name. Where we refer to “username”, please substitute the login name you chose when setting up your account.
1. Email address and User account: Your email address and user account settings on a pabodie design server is user@mydomain.com. You must use the full domain extension both for user name and email address, and not just your user name or you cannot connect properly. You can use any email program you choose to send and receive email as long as it supports the POP3 standard. Both Netscape and Internet Explorer come with POP3 compliant email programs. Other popular options are Outlook, Outlook Express, Netscape and Eudora.
2. Incoming (POP3) & Outgoing (SMTP) Mail settings: The two key pieces of info rmation needed to setup your account are settings for incoming and outgoing mail. Your incoming and outgoing mail server settings should both be set to "mail.mydomain.com". Please note that many ISP's are now requiring you to use their outgoing server settings when sending outgoing mail and if this is the case, you will need to substitute their required settings in the SMTP server field.
3. Outgoing Server Requires Validation: To cut down on spam, we validate our users sending mail. Your mail program will have a setting called “my SMTP server requires authentication”. You need to place a checkmark in the box next to this setting or you will be unable to send mail. This is usually located on the advanced tab of your mail setup. (Note: this is not the SSL authentication setting).
4. Once you have added your username, POP3 and SMTP server settings, and checked the server validation box as described in steps 1-3, you should be ready to go! Log on to the internet and test your settings.
Please feel free to call should you experience any problems setting up your mail.
I'm having problems sending email with Outlook or Outlook Express. Why?
Usually, problems sending email with Outlook or Outlook Express are due to authentication problems.
If you try to send mail before receiving mail, you will get an error. Your mail server requires you authenticate who your are before you can send email. When you retrieve your email you authenticate yourself by confirming your user name and password. Try to "receive" or "check" mail before trying to send your email again. This should resolve the problem.
If you are using Outlook, or Outlook Express - you need to make sure in the account setup, that the box for "My server requires authentication" is checked and that the "Use same settings as my incoming mail" radio button is checked. (All of this is on the "servers" tab in the account setup).
If you continue to have a problem authenticating, check the box next to "logon to incoming mail server before sending mail".
NOTE: For security reasons, many Internet Server Providers require that you use their outgoing server. If this is the case, then you will need to replace the information in the outgoing server box with the correct login and password obtained from your ISP. |
